Baillieu is an abstract expressionist and cubist artist of Spanish, Cuban, and Welsh descent, born and raised in South Florida as a first-generation American. Now living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Port Angeles, Baillieu's work is deeply informed by both personal history and transformative life experiences. After battling addiction, Baillieu found painting to be a therapeutic outlet for healing and self-expression. A traumatic brain injury three years ago further shaped the artist’s creative journey, as the process of painting became both a tool for recovery and a way to navigate new challenges in life.
In addition to being a practicing artist, Baillieu works part-time as an art therapist, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (neurodivergent) in their own therapeutic journeys. This experience has deepened Baillieu’s understanding of the healing potential of art and the powerful role creativity plays in self-expression and personal growth.
Drawing from the rich emotional depth of abstract expressionism and the fractured geometry of cubism, Baillieu explores themes of transformation, resilience, and the complexity of the human experience. The interplay of colors, forms, and textures in the artist’s work reflects not only a visual language of recovery but also a narrative of reinvention and strength. Each piece is an intimate reflection of Baillieu’s personal journey and a testament to the healing power of art.
Rooted in Baillieu’s Spanish and Cuban heritage, the work also evokes the rhythms, vibrancy, and traditions of the artist’s cultural background, infusing the canvas with a unique perspective. Through painting, Baillieu continues to explore, heal, and share a deeply personal story with the world—one stroke at a time.
